The Children Are Crying Organization is dedicated to empowering inner-city youth to achieve and excel in spite of their circumstances. Issues such as substance abuse, family violence, parental neglect, peer pressure, racism, and other critical aspects of our social environment have been explored through the narrative power of our flagship product, The Children Are Crying Calendar. This project has allowed us to award the Children Are Crying Dale Young / Ishmael Matthews Scholarship each year for the past 24 years.

This year’s calendar theme, ‘Made in Milwaukee’, highlights what we are made of - the ingredients. Milwaukee is often painted with a brush of negativity — but not my Milwaukee. My Milwaukee is filled with lovers, builders, scholars, families, and everyday people committed to making a difference far beyond the city’s negative narrative. It’s a place where resilience lives on every block, where creativity rises from struggle, and where hope is built with our own hands.

This year’s calendar showcases just a few of those remarkable individuals — the ones made of the real ingredients that make Milwaukee a truly special place. Their stories remind us that greatness grows here, that community thrives here, and that the heart of this city
beats because of people like them. Co-Authors include heavy hitters in the spoken and written word genre - Kwabena Antoine Nixon, Milwaukee Poet Laureate Shelly Conley, Anthony Ross, Dameon Ellzey, and Kavon Cortez Jones. We are also grateful for photographers Dr. Darrell L. Williams and Byron Johnson. Co-founder, Deadra Richelle Purifoy, once again brings the graphic vision to life. A profound thanks to Cecelia Gore, of the Milwaukee Brewers Community Foundation, for her continued support.
